I know I’ve been talking more about traveling than running lately, but I promise running is still on my mind and I have been keeping up with my miles as I know the months coming up to my 50 miler will be here in a flash. In the mean time I have a giveaway with not one but TWO free race registrations to make up for all the travel photos I’ve been making you put up with (and no I’m not done, I have a ton more.)
On January 1 2013, thousands upon thousands of people across the nation will run simultaneous 5Ks as a symbol of their commitment to a healthy way of life. Will you be one of them?
I know that if you read my blog you’re most likely already a runner and you eat 5Ks before your healthy oatmeal flex-seed breakfast; however, we all have friends, and family that we wish to motivate. Commitment Day is a “day for action, not apathy,” so inspire those around you by example and get your loved ones involved.
The Commitment Day 5k is a 3.1 mile run/walk/stroll taken place on January 1st, 2013 in over 30 cities for all ages! Kids under 18 are free and is a great way to welcome in the new year with your family. Registration is $39 and entry includes a Commitment Day T-shirt and a 2013 hardcover journal to keep track and progress of your best year yet ;). This giveaway will close Thursday, December 20, 2012. Winners will be announced Friday, December 21, 2012. I was not compensated for this post, and all opinions are my own.
I started running seriously again in August of this year after suffering a back injury that prevented me from most of any exercise. I’d try, but get hurt and had to take two – three weeks off again. My physical therapist told me to stop running and try swimming, but man that was so boring.
Anyway, I managed to log some miles in August, slowed down in October, and registered for my first half-marathon in November because hey, why not, right? (That *hurt* so bad).
Since then, I’ve run a 10k Turkey Trot 6k trail race and have a 10k coming up this weekend. I’m not drinking energy drinks anymore, rarely have coffee and I don’t eat fast food (I’m doing my best to cook for myself and eat healthy – heck, my body wants it because of all the running and so do I).
I’ve lost 37 pounds since August and all I can think of, is I’m glad I didn’t take the physical therapists advice to stop running. Because I’m feeling damn good physically and mentally going into 2013. And it’s that feeling that has me committed towards continuing my goals in 2013!
I’ve committed to my health by not hibernating over the winter as I’ve done in years past, and staying active.
I am committed to keep doing what I am doing! I have HUGE goals and have every intention of accomplishing them!!!

I am committed to my health by continuing to become a stronger better runner over the next year, and I am also planning to cook 2 new healthy recipes every month!
My commitment is to actually incorporate running into my exercise and dieting routine—what a perfect way to kick off this year by doing a run on day 1 of 2013 in Cleveland! I also commit to stick to an exercise routine and of course PORTION CONTROL!
